About the Imunization Resident Rotation Program
The Immunization Resident Rotation Program is designed for residents
in pediatrics, family practice, and internal medicine to optimize immunization rates across the lifespan by educating residents on immunization-related knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and best practices.
Learning Activities
-
Learning Management Systems (LMS): safety modules and case studies.

Clinical practice and involvement in health care treatment teams.

Determine immunization status and needed vaccines in a clinical setting and provide effective, age-appropriate, and culturally competent vaccine education for patients and family members.

Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections.
-
Exposure to storage and handling procedures and policies of vaccines during clinical experiences.

Use electronic Information Immunization System.
Participants will be required to review and sign Confidentiality Statement; fill out assessments, tests; as well as complete orientation, LMS sessions, training, and hands-on clinical activities.
Objectives
Following the program, residents will be able to:

Locate resources needed to accurately prescribe vaccines.

Differentiate between precautions and contraindications.

Identify patient’s needs and recommend appropriate vaccines using American Academy of Pediatric (AAP) guidelines.

Adopt proper techniques of vaccine administration and recognize policies associated with vaccine storage.

Illustrate confidence to effectively communicate vaccine safety with patients and family members.
-
Describe side effects of vaccines and dispel any side effect myths.

Address vaccine myths and hesitancy with patients.
-
Explore LTBI & TB case management in a health care team setting.
